I am very lucky to know some amazing former US Marines, some of which server on Sea Kings and later on V-22 Osprey’s. So in an Ode to them I have painted up an ultra Modern Marine force for Hind Commander. I have completed the air part of the task force, the ground part of the task force is next.
The boys back in Melbourne have played this for some time, unfortunately I have been lazy with my up take of new games until recently. Hind command is a 1/600th or 3mm scale helicopter combat game. You can get Hind commander from Assault Publishing directly, or if your like me I got mine through Pico Armour, along with a task force for Hind Commander.
The task force I am painting looks like this.
[table id=2 /]The only problem with this list is I have a EA 6A Prowler, and there are not any rules for this yet, or there maybe I just don’t have them yet. It is not the only thing I have, I also have painted the F35B which I will just run as F22’s.
I also have a number of CH-53 Sea Stallions, V-22 Osprey’s, CH-46 Sea Knights and AV-8B Harrier II’s.
I will start with the V-22 Osprey’s, these were a shapeways order, but the problem is that they are extruded Nylon and have a very rough stepped finish, so I have never really gotten around to paint them completely, I am looking for at a number of other possible suppliers.
F-35 Lightening II, this is part of the same shapeways order, these are made of the FUD material, and they are fantastic as are the Harriers that I ordered in same order. They are a sweet model and I recommend this model.
Fixed wings.
The jets came out great, I am still working on my C130J’s but that is ok, I can take a touch more time on them.
Tiltrotator Aircraft
I am really not happy about this model, I have not even finished it looks pretty bad. I am looking for some replacements now hopefully I will find some soon.
Rotary Wing
I put the rotors on these first then realised that they would be no good for photos, so I had not put any more on the models when I took the photos. These are the rotors that I got with the models they come stuck down to a sheet of paper, I have seen some discussion on what to do, because they are sticky, well.. I removed the sticky backing with some Eucalyptus Oil. Eucalyptus Oil can remove anything sticky from just about anything, it is great stuff.
These were great fun to paint, but it will be time for me to move on to something bigger for a short time. Highly recommend looking at these models if you are doing any moderns. I have some more plans for this scale, I really like the fact they are clean crisp models, you can source stuff from all over the net.
I still have models I have not based up, some UAV’s, more aircraft. overall this really didn’t cost much and you do get a good bang for your buck, Assault Publishing have a fantastic amount of community interaction, and expand and add to the system regularly. I am really not happy at all with the poor quality of the V-22’s but you get that.
What is next?
Well it is coming up to the end of the year, I think I will have to sum up my year, go through what I am looking forward to in the next year. I might try to get some painting done but with this time of the year it gets increasingly hard.
