This is the first project that really hit this blog and so it seemed like a good spot to do some experimenting. One of the biggest challenges with photographing miniatures is dealing with the depth of field. Miniatures have a certain look when photographed. Namely a small part will be in focus and most of the image is slightly out. This really characterises photographs of small things. In fact there’s a technique called miniaturisation where people take a picture of real life scenes and “miniaturise” them to make them look like they’re actually pictures of small scale models. Here’s an example I found on the web (sorry the owner doesn’t allow direct linking.)

Painted Batman
It seems I am jumping around a fair bit at the moment, so let’s continue the pattern and introduce another line of minis. This one is by Knight Models who have the rights to produce Batman miniatures. Now, they’re not cheap, but Knight have done a spectacular job of sculpting these and the game around them is pretty good with a definite Batman feel to the combat. However, this is one of those ones that is almost completely about the miniatures.
Painted Dropzone Commander
Another post and another change of topic. This time its Dropzone Commander (a 10mm Science Fiction game I’ve mentioned a couple of times previously). These minis had been sitting on my desk until I though of a scheme I liked and after a fair bit of back and forward I went with a Tan/Green striped … Read more
Anarchy Stencils and Dust Mi46 Helo Part I
This is a bit of a double post. First I want to talk about a recent KickStarter I got in on. Late last year Anarchy Models ran a quick starter to get some stencils produced. Their campaign was successful and ended up unlocking 38 stencils. Their stencils are designed to be used as masks on … Read more
USMC Infantry Painting
Note: this is a draft I had put up and delayed posting while I took some pictures. I just happened upon it and so figured I may as well publish. It’s taken me twice to publish it correctly too; now I have pictures. Quick little update vis-a-vis the USMC force that I wrapped up a … Read more
Pirate Commission – Part V
Despite the lack of posts this project has actually moved a fair way along. Very hot weather has made spraying difficult so I have been putting off varnishing and instead just painting more miniatures. First, I’ve finished painting the Red Coats; there are 24 of them all together (20 regulars and 4 leaders) and I’m … Read more
