January 2025 Recap

This January, as with most January’s at the Monday Knights, was filled with practice for some of the games that were part of CanCon 2025. CanCon is a popular gaming convention for the Monday Knights, with many of us taking the 7 hours drive from Melbourne To Canberra for a long weekend filled with wargaming, catching up with distant friends, and the creation of many stories about how cruel the dice gods can be! The tournaments at CanCon that we participated in include Warmaster, Team Yankee, DBA, Legions Imperialis, Glory is Fleeting, Flames of War, Conquest, and Broadside.

So as can be expected, January at the club was filled with games of Warmaster, Team Yankee, and Conquest.

Of course, there was also some games of Battletech and Alpha Strike, as well as more CanCon practice with Glory is Fleeting.

We also had a couple of first time played games, with Halo: Flashpoint and Broadside: Empires of Steel. Both games generated plenty of excitement by those playing and those watching, so its a safe bet they will get more play at the club.

Crudboy's initiation into war gaming was with Battletech way back in high school, where he spent more time creating 'mechs with his friends, and not nearly enough time actually playing the game. Since then, Crudboy has dabbled in so many different tabletop games that he no longer remembers which rule goes with which game. His latest loves include, but aren't confined to, Frostgrave, Gloomhaven, and Gaslands.
